Sector Investors News and Insights

About

At ETFsector.com we are dedicated to educating investors of all kinds from the most advanced to brand new investors. But rather than to try to teach you how to value companies, we wanted to show investors that by understanding how different sectors of the economy are doing, you can better formulate a plan and give yourself a chance to beat the S&P 500. It’s a good first challenge and provides you a great baseline to better understand the cycles of investing. We are a research site built to help people better understand how to invest in Sectors.

Why We Love Sectors – It’s a Framework for The U.S. Economy

Ever since the definition of the S&P 500 over 30 years ago by McGraw-Hill and the index company XXXX, they created a loose framework for evaluating what was and was not working in the US economy. We use the Sector Spdr ETFs as our proxy for each Sector.

Now we have a handy framework for the 11 major sector of the us economy and well-defined sub and micro sectors. But when investing, to keep it simple we now have ETFs that buy the whole sector for us, whether it is 30 companies or 100 companies.

  • Materials (# of holdings)
  • Technology
  • Real Estate
  • Industrial
  • Financial
  • Utilities
  • Energy
  • Communication Services
  • Consumer Staples
  • Consumer Discretionary
  • Health Care

Whether or not you realize it, you pay a trading cost on many (not all) platforms per trade, so when you buy an ETF and get 30 or 100 companies, they are saving you on trading costs.

S&P 500 Sector SPDR’s offer broad exposure to blue-chip US stocks that encompass the largest and most powerful companies in the world. A portfolio with a core position in Sectors ETFs offers the diversification of the many high-quality companies in each sector with the ability to tactically allocate across different exposures allowing the sector investor to benefit from recognition of emerging trends in financial markets, innovation or economic developments. Changing sector allocations can also help investors manage risk when looking to add different asset classes, single stocks, fixed income or other investments into their portfolio.

ETFSector.com outlines 5 key principles for sector selection that help investors take advantage of the different sensitivity each sector has to bull and bear markets, rising and falling interest rates, strong or weak earnings, inflation or deflation among other themes.

We’re here to help, if you don’t want to put in the work to pick sectors, we’ll do it for you, just subscribe for access to our suite of sector selection methods formulated by both in-house and external expert analysts with decades of experience in sector research and investing. Our experts have beaten the S&P consistently over the past 5 years and we have back up experts and firms to use if they falter. We love our experts as long as they consistently over perform, just like a sector, we love Technology until it hits it peak, then we sell it and move it to the avoid pile until our research shows it’s timely again. We also realize that not everyone wants to exclude any sector so we have a portfolio model that includes all 11 sectors but with different weightings based on our projections. So come along for the ride, start with sectors, investor your capital and find out how smart of investor you’ll become. Then move on to other asset classes, fixed income, commodities, digital assets.
